Gaïsha

oriental & psychedelic grooves with a Brussels twist

The band switches seamlessly between Arabic chants, parlando, and even rap, bringing you an interesting melting pot of styles, quoi.

Gaïsha is the funky collaboration between the Belgian-Moroccan singer Aïcha Haskal and (ex) members of Absynthe Minded, Sylvie Kreusch, De Beren Gieren and Va Fan Fahre. Together they bring you oriental & psychedelic grooves with a Brussels twist. The band switches seamlessly between Arabic chants, parlando, and even rap, which results in a brilliant melting pot of styles.

Thier first single (released on 7 inch vinyl by Zephyrus Records)  ‘Ghalat was written by the Egyptian poet Abedelhamid Farag, who called himself a ‘poète de l’éloignement’. His lyrics are permeated with deep melancholy and romande. The single is a tribute to Abdelhamid, who passed away in 2020.

‘Ana Aïcha’ is a protest song that fights for women rights. It’s an ode to the singer’s name, that literally translates as ‘liberty’. The melody translates her protest into a great psychedelic trip with surf elements and funky tunes.

In 2022 the band went into the studio to record album ‘Ana Aïcha’ which was released on Vinyl and CD in April 2023 and charted on number 1 of the World Music Charts Europe. Currently already working on material for a second album to be released in 2025.
